Jörg-Andreas BÖTTICHER

Born in Berlin, he studied early music in Basel, where his musical path was shaped by teachers such as Jean-Claude Zehnder (organ) and Andreas Staier (harpsichord), followed by further studies with Jesper B. Christensen and Gustav Leonhardt. A decisive influence was his long-standing collaboration with Ensemble La Fenice (1990–2004), through which he developed a deep engagement with the repertoire of the Italian early Baroque.

Since 1997, he has been Professor of Harpsichord and Basso Continuo at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and organist at Basel’s Predigerkirche, famous for its three historic organs. In addition, he curates the concert series Abendmusiken in der Predigerkirche, contributing significantly to the city’s early music scene.

As a performer, he appears both as a soloist and in collaboration with renowned ensembles such as Voces Suaves, Les Cornets Noirs, Bachstiftung St. Gallen and the Altberg Ensemble (Poland). His artistic activity is complemented by an international teaching career, with regular invitations to give masterclasses and lectures at conservatories across Europe, as well as in Tokyo and Bogotá.

His research and publications focus on basso continuo practice, musical aesthetics, and the cantatas of Johann Sebastian Bach. Numerous CD recordings document his particular interest in rediscovering lesser-known composers, including Alessandro Poglietti, Michelangelo Rossi, Gottlieb Muffat, Marco Giuseppe Peranda, and Balthasar Erben; several have been awarded the Diapason d’Or. In 2020, he received the Science Prize of the City of Basel in recognition of his long-standing contributions to musical scholarship and performance.
